WHAT IS NICU?

NICU, or neonatal intensive care unit, is a department in a hospital or health care facility that provides intensive care for babies that are ill, premature, or need additional medical care.

WHY WE STARTED KNITTING FOR LIFE

Picture
We are a tight-knit group of friends, but we all go to different schools. As a result, we wanted something to keep us together so we don’t drift apart. All of us have a passion for helping others and volunteering, so it started with a few of us volunteering for a hospital. However, we wanted to do more.

One of us, Hannah, started to learn how to knit, and wanted to make things to give away. One of the first things she knitted was baby booties. Since she didn’t have anyone to give it to, her mom suggested donating it to the NICU department at the hospital. One month later, she donated three pairs of baby booties to Englewood Medical Center.

One day, when we were hanging out, Hannah mentioned her new passion for knitting and how she donated her products. We were intrigued in the topic, and wanted to partake in it, even though we didn’t know how to knit. Suddenly, an idea sparked in our brains that this is definitely something we wanted to pursue..

So, we ended up here, creating Knitting for Life, the project that was destined to be for us. We all started to learn how to knit, and loved every second of it. We strive to donate to as many hospitals and health care centers as we can to make our dream into a reality.
